We hit the road for Beer, Dorset – our base for this road trip – and arrived in the mid-afternoon with no expectations, only the hope of a peaceful few days by the sea.
What we found was a place that immediately felt like something out of a storybook.
The village welcomed us with its charm and quiet history. From tales of smugglers to the gentle bobbing of fishing boats along the shoreline, Beer is the kind of place where time slows down in the best way. The sunshine lit everything up just right, casting a warm glow over the stone cottages and sparkling sea.
Our accommodation turned out to be a beautiful little cottage that once operated as a bakery – a detail that made my heart sing as a passionate baker. There’s something incredibly special about staying in a place with that kind of history, where the scent of warm loaves might still linger in the walls if you’re imaginative enough.
We wandered to the beach and watched the boats come and go, breathing in the sea air and letting the calm sink in after days of driving. It was peaceful in the kind of way that makes you instantly forget whatever chaos you’ve left behind.
Later that evening, we took a drive for supplies – because no coastal stay is complete without the essentials – and caught the most stunning sunset on the way back. There was something golden and timeless about it, the kind of view that makes you stop talking and just take it in.
Beer felt like a gift. Relaxed, rich in history, and quietly beautiful. A perfect place to pause, reset, and start plotting the next chapter of the journey.
