The six-foot long reptile was spotted lounging by an artificial dam on the Greek island of Crete – and the isle’s police have admitted they had no idea how it got there.The animal was spotted having a sun bathe at the Potami Dam, near Rethymno on the British tourist hotspot.Police, firefighters and government officials responded to a tip off, which local transport director Vangelis Mamangakis admitted was believed to be fake.He said: “At first we thought it was a joke, but once we realised that the witnesses were backed up with camera evidence we started investigating the incident, and working out how to catch it.”
