Frederick I. Ordway III, whose expertise in science fiction and real space exploration helped shape the groundbreaking imagery and feel of the film “2001: A Space Odyssey,” died on July 1 at his home in Huntsville, Ala. He was 87.His death was confirmed by his son Frederick I. Ordway IV.
