The American showman Phineas T. Barnum was best remembered for his entertaining hoaxes and for founding the circus that eventually became Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. He was attributed for originally stating “there’s a sucker born every minute” which he didn’t …but he did say that “every crowd has a silver lining,” and acknowledged that “the public is wiser than many imagine.” Barnum was shameless when it came to being a huckster and making money.
