In 1932, a writer penned an article for The New Republic, explaining that Einstein had met a popular “prophet” named Gene Dennis and walked away a believer. Einstein reportedly said: “She told me things no one possibly could know.” The following series of letters flew back and forth after the article, with Upton Sinclair leaping in to defend the great doctor.
