After Lunch, we set off again in the MT Cuprachubra, chasing ghosts, mysteries, and fossils, this time with Charmouth in our sights.

A spontaneous decision on a beautiful day, though we soon found ourselves navigating yet more road closures and diversions. But, for once, we weren’t complaining. The detours gave us a chance to see places we’d never normally pass through – small villages with weathered stone houses and crooked little roads, old churches tucked behind hedgerows, and glimpses of countryside that looked untouched by time. Sometimes, the road less travelled really is the best one.

Our mission, as ever, was part paranormal, part historical, with a sprinkle of Templar intrigue for good measure. Charmouth had been on our radar for a while, famed not only for its Jurassic coast fossils, but also the rich layers of history hidden behind the shoreline. A place where stories are embedded in the cliffs as much as the stones.

We arrived just before sunset. The golden hour was in full swing, and the beach stretched out in front of us almost completely deserted, save for a few lone dog walkers and the endless rhythm of the waves. The light filtered through the sea mist and cast a gentle glow over the crumbling cliffs. If anywhere could feel both eerie and peaceful at once, it was Charmouth.

We took a long walk along the shore, hoping to stumble across a fossil or two, or perhaps some old bones with a story to tell. The wind had picked up slightly by then, carrying with it that unmistakable coastal chill, but it was nothing a coat and a bit of determination couldn’t manage. Every rock felt like a potential relic, every shadow a possible presence.

There’s a strange kind of silence on a beach like that, one that invites speculation, imagination, and a sense of something just out of reach.Though we didn’t find anything otherworldly or ancient this time, the experience itself was worth every mile. There’s something about a beach at dusk that draws out old energy, like the land is exhaling its secrets once the sun starts to dip.

From there, we hit the road again, tired but content, and headed home. A long soak in the bath and an early night felt like a fitting end to a day that reminded us why we keep chasing these moments.

Not every trip brings answers, but every one brings something unexpected. And sometimes, that’s even better.
